Re: ‘Anti-choice vigil inspires pro-choice debate
For the record, I should tell your readers that I attended Victoria’s first 40 Days for Life peaceful pro-life prayer vigil, which was certainly not anything like the fictive event that Simon Nattrass describes in his nasty City Watchdog column of October 20.
The event which he describes as ‘part of an international anti-choice campaign’ was actually organized locally by Choose Life Victoria, but that irony was apparently lost to your writer in his unbalanced report.
This peaceful pro-life prayer vigil has been attended by more than eighty persons so far, far more than any opposition, contrary to Mr. Natrass’ false assertion that it ‘has garnered very little attendance since setting up shop in front of the Vancouver Island Women’s Clinic last month.’
Mr. Natrass would do well to follow up on his insight that he is ‘struck by the realization that I have surrounded myself with people who align themselves with only one side of the debate.’
He can rectify that imbalance by actually talking or writing to some of us pro-lifers, and he will find that we are not violent in any way, far from it.
The peaceful 40 Days for Life vigil happens far from the so-called ‘women’s clinic’ where abortions are done, outside of the government’s ridiculous ‘no free speech zone’, in fact, on the grass near a sidewalk on the opposite side of the corner of Helmcken and Island Highway.
None of us impeded access to that place by any person whatsoever, nor was that our intention to do so.
We broke no laws, but notwithstanding that fact, I was harassed by Westshore R. C. M. Policewoman Shannon who phoned me three times in two days to ‘confirm my attendance at the Helmcken protest’, as she erroneously characterized it.
This tyrannical police harassment of peaceful pro-life prayer vigil keepers is the real story for you to pursue next time, my friends.
Our activities are a Christian healing ministry for the conversion of hearts and minds, and are never described by 40 Days for Life as a protest.
My open public purpose in attending that peaceful pro-life prayer vigil was also to express my Creator-given and Charter-protected rights to freedom of assembly, freedom of speech and freedom of religion, quietly witnessing to the horror of the abortions done in that place, and to make sure that residents in Oak Bay and Victoria are aware that such things are happening in View Royal.
I really doubt that there is a pressing need for profit-making private abortionists to set up shops for business in other municipalities in the CRD, pretending to be ‘women’s clinicians’, while abortion on demand is available for free at all public hospitals, tragically subsidized against our will by a growing majority of awakening pro-life taxpayers.
I am determined to find out which Candidates are pro-life, to make sure that no such abortuaries are approved for zoning variances, development applications or business licenses in either Victoria where I live, nor in Oak Bay, where I am seeking a Council seat.
