‘I am aware of the contradictions of a social democratic party, which historically is what the NDP is–the same organization in Germany whose leader appointed Adolph Hitler as chancellor…’ Larry Wartel (Ben Isitt volunteer, NDP member) to Independent Non-partisan Pro-Life Oak Bay Council candidate Gregory Hartnell, October 1, 2011

Hello Gregory,

Layton Turmel

Jack sure did support the disgraceful imperialist attack on Libya and I’m incredibly glad that Turmel has reversed such a stand.

I didn’t know that and I am grateful and appreciate your heads up about that.

It’s so important that you care about stopping invasion and exposing the hypocrisy wherever it exists that allows occupation to continue.

But, I’m not sentimental about anybody.

I am passionate about humane peoples’ leaders.

Mr. Layton, while not the same as a Nelson Mandela, Olof Palme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olof_Palme) or Archbishop Romero, still understood that compassion and love are important antidotes to cynicism, hatred and apathy, if we are to change the world.

I am aware of the contradictions of a social democratic party, which historically is what the NDP is–the same organization in Germany whose leader appointed Adolph Hitler as chancellor–which is why I support another historical organization which is not reformist nor “sell-out”.

Only by building a non-reformist social movement can we keep fire under the arses of all politicians, but particularly the politicians who come closest to claiming to represent our interest, and take no money from our adversary.

That’s the contradictory nature of the NDP, always was and will be.

Until that time in Canada when people are ready to prevent money, profit and vast amounts of privately accumulated property from existing.

We are nowhere near there yet.

So, the NDP is not an end-point, just part of a long historical process that can make things a bit better for the oppressed at times or not, depending on how much mass participation and pressure is exerted on any given issue, at any given moment.

That level of pressure is up to us as role models in our community.

The business-financed parties are never in a position to do that, though one of them can be used as a hedge to fascism–at times…or not.

I’m like our adversary–I engage in real-politic: make an assessment of the socio-economic situation and strengthen the positive element on the long historical march toward fundamental and qualitative social transformation.

Very importantly, I don’t let the enemy of the good be the perfect.

There are so many simple and concrete things we can do that contribute to change.

“The arc of history is long but it tends toward justice,” said Dr. King.

And “The meek shall inherit the Earth–but they have to want to,” said a bold president of the San Pedro International Longshore Workers’ Union local.

She knew that proactive organizing is essential for that to happen, including door-to-door work for change-maker candidates during elections, like Ben Isitt (who despises the NDP machine, and they have contempt but respect for him.

And he is a gifted strategic analyst and organizer, who knows how to mobilize working class voters, who comprise the core of the NDP–and many of them know we need something better, but aren’t aware that we are the only ones who can build it, www.BenIsitt.ca).

Watch “Mouseland” and see if it makes sense–it’s very charming and usually brings a chuckle:

Shallow-Omm (instead of Shalom, if Palestine is not given statehood–really picking on some of my Jews here),
