Why should BC taxpayers subsidize tax breaks for American billionaire Dennis Washington’s Seaspan Military Industrial Complex combat/guard shipbuilding bids?

‘Seaspan is part of the Washington Companies,’ according to Carla Wilson, writing under the headline “Seaspan shouldn’t get tax breaks,” on the front page of the BUSINESS section of  the War Party’s Victoria Times Colonist lamestream newspaper.

‘Montana businessman Dennis Washington owns or controls a majority position in the company and is on Forbes 2011 list of the world’s billionaires,’ according to Wilson.

‘”We are looking for financial assistance, and we have suggested to the B. C. government it could be similar to the tax relief provided to the oil, gas and film industry.

‘”That being said, we are still in discussions with the province and have yet to determine how they are to assist the B. C. shipbuilding industry,”‘ said Jonathan Whitworth, company CEO.

Bob Plecas, a former provincial deputy minister of economic development under William Vander Zalm, says that ‘companies have to be able to do these projects on their own and take advantage of programs that are universally available.’

‘When you start giving them tax breaks on expenditures that they are putting into building infrastructure, you’ve got a problem,’ Plecas said.
