Peter Weinrich on ‘entirely wasteful and unnecessary’ fighter jets: ‘The original price of $15,000,000,000 has already doubled to $30,000,000,000’

Two April 17 letters attempted to show that the Harper government’s proposed purchase of new fighter jets and expenditures on prisons are good ideas.

Several aeronautical experts have stated that the jets are useless for one of their intended purposes, safeguarding the Arctic; others point out that the new jets have not yet passed any testing and undoubtedly require much more research.

The other letter tells us that $30 billion spread over 30 years is not too much to pay.

The original price of $15 billion has already doubled to $30 billion.

And that is just for the planes, never mind the additional prison space required for “unreported crimes.”

If we pause to consider what $30 billion could do for health care, education, quality of life for seniors and the poor, and all the other critical issues facing our country, it is quite easy to see that this enormous expenditure is entirely wasteful and unnecessary.
