Does Oak Bay need a Mayor at all? Liberal Christopher Causton says if he wins in Victoria, Oak Bay won’t need a byelection to replace him… 7 months without a mayor?

In the unlikely event that Liberal candidate Christopher Causton is elected to replace the NDP’s Denise Savoie in Victoria, there will be no need to have a byelection to replace him for seven months, he says.

Christopher Causton – Status as Mayor of Oak Bay

POSTED ON MARCH 28, 2011

As you are aware, a Federal election was called on Saturday March 26th, with voters going to the polls on May 2nd. As the nominated candidate for the Federal Liberal Party in Victoria, my campaign will begin immediately.

Therefore, effective as of Tuesday March 29th, I will be taking a leave of absence from my duties as Mayor of Oak Bay and CRD director for the duration of the campaign. There will continue to be obligations, such as a pre-arranged meeting to talk to Willow’s Elementary School grade 1 and 2 students that I will honour.

I wish to make it clear that I have decided not to run again as mayor regardless of the outcome of the Federal election. It has been an honour to be the longest serving mayor of this wonderful community, and no matter what my future role, I will continue to be an advocate for all residents and businesses.

If I am successful to represent Victoria as the Liberal Member of Parliament for the Victoria riding, there will be no need for a by-election as there are only 7 months left in my term. A new mayor will be elected in the November municipal elections.

I look forward to the coming Federal campaign, which will be an exciting time to discuss the issues of the entire riding.
