Natural Resources Canada has radiation detector at Sidney, north of Victoria, but won’t release radiation data forecasts to public…WHY?

More than a week after the nuclear reactor explosions in Japan, the Postmedia War Party newspapers in Victoria and Vancouver ran stories about a radiation detector in place at Natural Resources Canada, in Sidney, north of Victoria.

This highly sensitive device is operated in conjunction with the Preparatory Commission for Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), headquartered in Vienna, Austria.

The Vancouver Sun newspaper reports that ‘CTBTO is not allowed to directly release its data and forecasts to the public.’

Radiation detectors in Sacramento, California (inland from the coast), have announced detection of Japanese radiation yesterday.

Natural Resources Canada and the Government of Canada have a direct  ethical responsibility to inform Canadian citizens of any radiation whatsoever detected at Sidney, and to carefully explain whether such radiation readings at Sidney or at the other three similar NRC radiation detectors in the country constitute immediate dangers to the Canadian public .

What is the purpose of maintaining such radiation detection devices if the information gathered from them is not conveyed to the public in times of emergency?

Concerned Citizens’ Coalition
