Larry W., member of ‘the Rose Henry Campaign team’, admits to Gregory Hartnell that they should not have emphasized her race, gender, economic status in campaign

Startling admission from socialist activist on ‘the Rose Henry Campaign Team’

Larry W., in an unsolicited phone call today to Gregory Hartnell, candidly admitted that ‘the Rose Henry Campaign Team’ made a mistake in emphasizing the Candidate’s race, gender and socio-economic status.

‘The startling admission, coming from one of the people who actually produced pamphlets, signs, posters and web material for the Victoria City Council Candidate, confirms what I have been saying since the byelection day, Saturday, November 20, when I first posted my critique of their overtly racist, sexist and class conscious campaign’, says Gregory Hartnell.

‘I now challenge any other members of ‘the Rose Henry Campaign Team’ to confirm or deny what Larry told me,’ said Hartnell.

‘We actually seemed to end up in a friendly appreciation of each other’s candour in the phone conversation.

‘Larry asked me a bunch of questions, very respectfully, I might add, and was apparently forthright and honest to me in admitting his association with the Team.

‘He was  his usual friendly, casual self, open to knowing more about my position, all of which I respect, and appreciate.

‘Should anyone wonder who this man is, I am only identifying him at this point by calling him ‘Larry W.’ to ensure that I get his name spelled quite correctly when I finally choose to reveal it.

‘In the meantime, if he was acting as any kind of professional interviewer, he would have recorded the whole conversation, no doubt, and so I am quite sure that I did not misunderstand him, and stand to be corrected if I misinterpreted his remarks to me when I started asking him a few questions of my own, always in the public interest, of course, of full transparent disclosure!’

How surprising that – as your giddiness over this admission demonstrates – your apology was meaningless. Your only regret seems to be that you didn’t have more material at the outset with which to denigrate the voice of an indigenous woman.
