CAROLE WITTER ON CRD SEWAGE TREATMENT SITE PLAN: ‘McLoughlin Point has serious site limitations and this is documented in several reports.’

CAPITAL REGIONAL DISTRICT’S

‘CORE AREA LIQUID WASTE MANAGEMENT’ PLAN

HAS SERIOUS FLAWS, SAYS ESQUIMALT WRITER

CAROLE WITTER

Judy Brownoff’s article June 29 [Victoria Times Colonist] stating that the “McLoughlin Point site and treatment plant has been a cornerstone of every option since the start of planning” for sewage treatment is incorrect.

This site was only ever considered as part of a distributed wastewater system, and this only in the last year or so, not since the start of planning.

The CRD has not “better accommodated the communities in which wastewater treatment facilities were considered.”

Saanich East/North Oak Bay had the courtesy of 14 public consultations, Victoria six, West Shore five and Esquimalt only three.

McLoughlin Point has serious site limitations and this is documented in several reports.

These facts are available on the CRD core area liquid waste management website.
