Gary Lindner: ‘The City of Victoria’s decision on replacing the bridge… made without enough consideration of taxpayers’ ability to pay’

Whether it’s Blue Bridge replacement or sewage treatment plants, we need referendums on any major projects requiring large amounts of tax dollars.

The City of Victoria‘s decision on replacing the bridge and the Capital Regional District’s plans for a $1-billion treatment system were made without enough consideration of taxpayers’ ability to pay.

Many politicians have stated in the past that they have been put in office by the voters and would like to do their jobs without the hassles of petitions and referendums.

Low- to middle-income couples in the CRD will find themselves taxed out of their homes if we don’t get some kind of control of these huge expenditures.
