‘SPECIAL’ VICTORIA CITY COUNCIL MEETING on Johnson Street Bridge petition, THURSDAY, JANUARY 7, 2010: Important shorts on B Channel News TV

BALANCE OF POWER SWINGS

TO VICTORIA CITY COUNCILLOR GEOFF YOUNG

The Mayor of Victoria, Dean Fortin, tried to put on his brave happy face , but the day’s most important item on the City of Victoria’s agenda was not to be controlled by him anymore.

His longtime associate, Councillor Pamela Madoff, was about to introduce a motion to abandon his pet project to borrow $42,000,000 to demolish and replace the Johnson Street Bridge.

Before the ‘special’ meeting of the Victoria City Council was over, the Mayor’s forces had been reduced to a rump of three, down from eight, and B CHANNEL NEWS TV videotaped all the important parts of the meeting in short, manageable segments.

The quality of the sound and close-up shots of the videos is quite good, and there are some amazing quotes here by stunned Councillors trying to salvage their discredited reputations for prudent infrastructure management.
