N. J. KOFIN: Limit the length of the Dallas Road dog off-leash area

YOUNG  64 YEAR OLD WOMAN WALKER

CALLS FOR CONSIDERATION BY DOG OWNERS

FOR ELDERLY AND INFIRM SENIORS

Kudos to the writer whose letter was published about the dangers of the dog off-leash area along Dallas Road.

I am a young 64-year-old woman who has walked this beautiful path for years.

I still walk very well and am not unstable on my feet.

Even so, I am constantly frightened for myself and others b;y unmanaged dos who come bounding out of nowhere to startle you and make you very anxious about what to expect next.

I agree that many of the dog owners are not showing “effective control” of their animals at all.

Few are considerate enough to see my anxiety and quickly grab their dog until I have passed.

Others are annoying when they yell “don’t worry, he is friendly” as their dog is acting very unfriendly and threatening.

I regularly see older, more infirm seniors who are frieghtened and don’t know what to do and seniors using a walker trying to fend off a dog and still keep their balance.

Trying to get the name of the owner of a dog if you were seriously injured or bitten would be impossible.

The writer’s suggestion is a great one — limit the length of the off-leash area.

Walkers would thank the City for eliminating the risk and anxiety from their fun, healthy outdoor experience in our great city.

  1. This is a great idea to specify an area for people who love dog and safe for people who not an owner. Because of you never know which dog are friendly?
