‘JOSEPH STRAUSS BRIDGE MOBSTERS’ SPOOK VETERAN NDP VICTORIA CITY COUNCILLOR LYNN HUNTER

STILL ‘UNCLEAR’ WHAT THE RESULTS OF

THE JOHNSON STREET BRIDGE AAP MEAN

Councillor Lynn Hunter made reference to ‘mob rule’ in her recorded remarks in Victoria Council Chamber yesterday afternoon, in commenting on a motion put forward by her fellow NDP Councillor Pamela Madoff.

Ms. Hunter’s comment was in apparent reference to the recent City of Victoria-initiated ‘Alternative Approval Process’ which the City Council just lost to an ad hoc opposition citizens’ group, johnsonstreetbridge.org.

I believe that an apology is in order by Councillor Hunter to all those thousands of Victorians who signed the petition who may object to being refered to by the Councillor as mobsters or as a member or members of a mob, bearing in mind all the negative connotations to criminal activity usually associated with such language.

    Gregory!

Is it safe to assume that perpetually irate Lynn Hunter isn’t planning to run again? Has she perhaps, volunteered, for “lightning-rod duty” to take heat off Fortin and Council?

If neither, her exclamations seem to range from –

    needlessly provocative,
    to Monarchist imperial,
    to barking mad pedantry.

It’s been a very long time since anyone not born to the Habsburg or Romanov Dynasties rued the onset of “mob rule.”

So it seems uncommonly ridiculous in North America to cite such fears given zero supporting evidence.

Worse, the NDP’s typical base is low-and fixed-income families, (a mob of underemployed and “Workers!”) so the sense that Lynn has emotionally evacuated to another planet strengthens daily.

There are many possible triggers underlying Lynn’s anomalous blurts, but one sticks. Council played tyrant. Council got caught and withoujt doubt was rudely thumped for it.

Rather than take their lumps, reform, and moderate their attitudes, for Lynn at least, attributing humiliating public rejection to an outbreak of bourgeois mob mentality may deflect and even channel the lesson into one of re-directed resentment. Like Richard Nixon.

Besides, was it a not a bourgeois mob mentality which elected Lynn and her fellow Plutarchs?

    Go figure…

Oh dear, I’m sure she won’t like the reference to ‘Tricky Dicky.’

It was the teamsters I was one of for nine months that was “All Mobbed Up” and it is from unions the likes of Ms Hunter and her party receive much of their campaign contributions. But most everyone over ten knows the pot calls the kettle black.
    Seig Heil to Ms. Hunter

  4. goyodelarosa says:

Please be careful what you say, Mr. Hansen.

I was once in an undemocratic big union also and was arrested by the RCMP at the behest of the corporatist Harcourt, so I share your antipathy for corruption in the unions, and the hypocrisy of the NDP.

I believe there is corruption in the unions, without a doubt.

And there is very likely corruption in the relationship between those unions and the New Democratic Party, of which Ms Hunter is a well-known member.

As to how that corruption may or may not affect Ms Hunter and her party is a matter of utter speculation, and therefor, please be very careful.
