Seattle University President Stephen Sundborg, S. J., is named as a defendant in a lawsuit brought against the Oregon Province of the Jesuits (‘Society of Jesus’), according to an article in the Seattle University Spectator, published since 1933.
These allegations were brought by almost 500 plaintiffs, represented by a number of different law firms, accusing almost 80 Jesuits of various criminal acts of sexual abuse against minors.
The SU President is accused of knowing of the details of some of the alleged abuse and of covering it up.
Father Sundborg denies knowledge of the cases and says he is innocent of all charges.
A majority of the suits have been placed by natives of Alaska.
As a Christian, a Catholic and a person who was taught by Jesuits in San Francisco, I find this news appalling.

There is good reason to be appalled. Many of the accusations are fabricated. There are some extremely unprincipled lawyers involved. They are casting their nets broadly and in many instances with little basis in truth in their attempt to take down the Church and the Jesuits. By all means, be appalled, and watch.
