CCC PRESIDENT FINDS IT “HARD TO BELIEVE

THAT A NEW STRUCTURE WOULD COST ‘VERY LITTLE MORE’

THAN FIXING UP THE STRAUSS BRIDGE”

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Hello Geoff:

Thanks for writing back.  My own personal feeling is that the bridge is ugly, albeit with significant heritage significance, so the decision you made was a difficult one, as I believe many hold the same view.

Being fiscally conservative, with all due respect, I just find it hard to believe that a new structure would cost ‘very little more’ than fixing up the Strauss bridge.

In any case, how likely do you really think it is that the Harper ‘Conservatives’ will be disposed to helping out a Socialist-Green-dominated Council?

The same question applies when considering Mr. Campbell’s ideological position vis a vis the N. D. P. and Green Councillors.

Anyway, wouldn’t Council have to undertake a referendum to get the 1/3 amount ($20,000,000?) that would be the shortfall, in the unlikely event that both these senior governments paid the other 2/3?

Thanks again for writing back.  You are the only Councillor that did*, and I await Denise’s response.

If I hear from her, I will copy it to you.

Very sincerely,

Gregory Hartnell
