(This email is to all non-elected Victoria City Council candidates)
Apologies everyone for this email (to those of you concerned of such matters), but hope this email finds you all in (at least) relatively good sorts.
I’ve heard some talk of some non-elected folk getting together, in order to form some sort of “opposition” to the new council. Perhaps something like the Saanich Civic League? So, just wondering if any of you would be interested in sharing your thoughts on this (privately of course). Perhaps even having a coffee hang-out somewhere (either alone or in a group or two), to find out what some people’s plans/projects/hopes for the future are?
By the way, I saw the Shaw Daily’s political affairs program last weekend. Murray Langdon, Keith Vass, Rob Shaw were the guests, and the subject came up about increasing requirements for running for Victoria City Council in 2011. This has been already been discussed in the Times-Colonist letters page, including by one of the Council candidates who won, who was in support of it. Anyone want to pay a $500 deposit? Search for 100 signatures for your nomination form? Seems to me like some of us should be at least making regular appearances at the Council meetings, and be ready to speak to this matter when it comes to a vote. Also, might be as good a reason as any, for at least some of us to get organized.
Anyways, sorry for any unintentional clogging of people’s email’s addresses, and this will probably be the only major email I send out like this. It was wonderful to meet all of you in the is past election, and I look forward to any positive future interaction that the bigger picture allows. Hope you all manage to have a happy festive holiday season.
Yours Sincerely
Jon Valentine
